Ask the
Credit Report Professor
“How much information is on my credit
report? How long do things stay on it?”
Generally,
your credit report will hold anywhere from
the last 5-8 years of your credit history.
There are a lot of details included as well,
such as your monthly payments reporting from
each company, and any notes about what
payments you might have missed. When you
query your credit, a note is left there as
well, but generally those notations
disappear after one or two months (unless
you open an account with whatever company
accessed your credit, in which case your new
account will be reflected).
“What does my credit score mean?”
That’s a great
question! Your credit score ranges anywhere
from 350-850, and is called your FICO score
(FICO stands for Fair Isaac Corporation, the
company that created the scoring process).
Your score is the result of all the factors
on your credit history, such as how long
you’ve maintained your credit, how much you
owe, what accounts are in collections, and
more.
